Mahakaleshwar

Mahakaleshwar Jyotirlingam is one of the most famous Hindu temples dedicated to Lord Shiva and it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingams, which is the most sacred abodes of Shiva. It is centrally located in Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh. It is also called as Avantika Puri or Moksha Puri.

The idol is very different with compare to any other shrines. It is very big shiva lingam. And the kind of decoration always makes us to mesmerise to stay for a long time. If we see the eyes of shiva lingam, as if Mahakal is sitting there and looking us. It is very difficult to describe about Mahakal. One should practically experience this and enjoy the beauty from their inner heart.

Temple is also a very big and you will find multiple temples inside the compound. It takes at least 2 to 3 hours to cover the entire temple.

The most famous for Mahakal is Bhasma Harathi which is performed during 4.00 AM every day. It requires prior registration one day before at Ujjain Temple premises. Apart from Bhasma Harathi, we can also see Evening Harathi around 7.00 to 7.30 and Shyana Harathi around 10.30.

One has to go Ujjain at least once in their life time and visit Lord Mahakaleshwar.

Reaching Ujjain

Ujjain is a major junction in Madya Pradesh and easily accessible from any place. Regular buses and trains available from various cities. Bhopal (183 km), Indore (53 km).

From Hyderabad we have direct train(Hyderabad - Ajmer Weekly Express - 17020) to Ujjain or we can get down at Bhopal and go by road or train.

Accomodation is not an issue as it one of the major city in MP, you can find good number of hotels near temple. It is ideal to stay near temple because to attend harathi or for dharshan it will be very easy. There are few ashrams but they are little bit far around 1Km plus.

For local site seeing you can opt for a Bus near Mahakal Temple or you can go by autos. It takes around 4 to 5 hours to cover all these places.

 

Apart from the above the other important place from Ujjain is Omkareshwara Jyotirlingam which is around 3 hours journey via Indore.
